JAMAICA Broilers Group (JBG), through its Hi-Pro brand, continues to invest in the
growth of the agricultural sector with a contribution of $20 million towards the
staging of the annual Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show to be held at
the Denbigh show ground in Clarendon, August 1 to 3.
The announcement was made by president and chief executive officer of Jamaica Broilers
Group Christopher Levy at the Denbigh launch held on the lawn of the Hi-Pro ACE Supercentre
in White Marl, St Catherine, on Wednesday.
His group, he said, viewed the contribution as an
investment in the country, as well as the Jamaica Agricultural Society and is in keeping
with a long-standing commitment by JBG to the development of agriculture.
"We are re-investing
in the agricultural sector and our chicken farmers are expanding, which is a sign that people
are seeing agriculture as a viable business," Levy said.
He noted that the growth of the
agricultural sector, over the last three quarters, can be attributed to the policies of the
government and the hard work of Jamaican farmers.
Speaking on the matter of food security,
Levy said it has become an agenda item for many nations and the challenges being faced by
Canada and Europe at this time are centred on that issue.
"Here in Jamaica our farmers have
been playing a vital role in feeding our people and we want to recognise them for the part
they have been playing in producing at the highest level," he said.
A symbolic cheque presentation
was made at the launch by divisional sales and marketing manager of Hi-Pro Daren Lawrence to Minister
of Agriculture Roger Clarke and witnessed by Senator Norman Grant, president of the Jamaica Agricultural Society.
